Oggi Foods Cauliflower Pizza Crust Review

Oggi Foods cauliflower pizza crust has turned the cauliflower crust game upside down. This is not your average cauliflower crust. It does not taste like cardboard, doesn’t come out of the box icy and wet, won’t hit your face with an overwhelming smell of cauliflower, and is certainly not lacking in the flavor department.

Known as the most pizzeria-like cauliflower crust on the market, Oggi Foods cauliflower crust might be the hidden gem for those looking for a gluten-free alternative to traditional pizza crust and do NOT want to give up taste.

So, what sets this cauliflower crust apart from the rest? Well, let’s just say when you’re eating pizza on Oggi’s crust, you won’t be reminded that you’re eating a veggie-based crust with every bite.

But, even Oggi’s crust has its drawbacks and might not be for everyone. We ran the crust through our taste test, and in this article, we’ll give you an honest review of everything we learned about this crust.

Let’s start with the BOTTOM LINE!

THE BOTTOM LINE

Oggi’s crust gets almost everything important to pizza lovers right. As the only Neapolitan cauliflower-based crust, it has a crispy outer edge, a chewy interior that can stand up to any toppings you pile on it, and the flavor is spot on.

If Margherita pizza is your thing, this is the crust for you. You can try THE WORKS or go for any other heavily topped combination and enjoy the crust just as much.

The box gives two separate baking instructions; one for classic Margherita pizza and the other for any other combination of toppings. We followed the 5-7 minutes instruction, and the crust was perfectly cooked. So, there will be no need to make any adjustments during baking.

As for how healthy this crust is, if you narrow it to its ingredients, Oggi’s crust does have some texturizing additives that are not the healthiest. But, the crust still gets an above-average health score.

On calorie and carb content, Oggi’s crust is on the middle to the upper end. In other words, this crust is not an option for weight-loss plans. However, it does much better with lifestyle diets. It’s Vegan, Plant-Based, non-GMO, and obviously gluten-free.

All in all, Oggi’s crust is the most unique and closest to classic pizza crust you’ll find in the alternative options. If you’re looking for a healthier alternative to traditional pizza and don’t want to give up flavor or texture, Oggi’s crust is the way to go.

Unboxing and First Impressions

Oggi Foods Cauliflower Pizza Crusts

Each box of Oggi’s contains two 12-inch crusts in separate packets. The back of the box has preparation instructions for two types of pizzas; classic Margherita and any other combination.

The first thing we noticed about Oggi’s crusts is that they look just like pitta bread. The color is consistent throughout, and there are some light brown patches.

The crusts did not have any smell of cauliflower, so no worries if you’re not a fan of the vegetable’s smell.

Oggi Foods Cauliflower Pizza Crust: Taste, Texture, and More

Taste

Oggi’s crust doesn’t have that typical cauliflower crust taste. In fact, there is no specific describable taste to tell you about. All the ingredients are well-balanced and nothing stands out too much. The closest we can get to describing the taste is “doughy”.

Overall, Oggi’s crust tastes very good and realistic. You won’t be able to tell it’s not a classic wheat flour crust.

Texture

This is where Oggi’s crust shines the most. Made to be a Neopolitan crust, the dough has been hand-stretched and stone-baked before boxing. Thus, the outer edge is crispy, and the inside is chewy like any classic pizza crust.

Unlike other cauliflower crusts, you can pile on any toppings you want without worrying about the crust losing its shape or crumbling. So, feel free to go all out with your favorite toppings.

Smell

The crust doesn’t have any particular smell before or after baking.

Size

Oggi’s crusts are 12 inches in size and about an inch thick. They don’t change size or volume after baking.

Ease of Preparation

Yet another spot where Oggi’s crust excels. The baking instruction says 5-7 minutes of baking at 425°F is sufficient for any topping. And, indeed, the crust was perfectly cooked after 7 minutes in our oven.

You don’t need to adjust the baking time or temperature for a better result. So, this is a huge plus for a quick and easy pizza night. Thus, Oggi’s grade on ease of preparation is an A+.

Price and Availability

Oggi Foods’ cauliflower crusts come in a pack of 2 and are usually priced at $9.99. The only drawback is that they’re not widely available in stores. So, you’ll mostly find them online or in some select stores.

For a list of stores, Oggi Foods has a store locator feature on its website which lists retailers near you based on your zip code.

However, the main retailer carrying Oggi’s crusts is the Grocery Outlet bargain market. If there is one in your area, you can be sure you’ll find Oggi’s products there.

Realistic-Tasting Score (Scale of 1 to 10)

After everything we’ve said about Oggi’s crust, it should go without saying that it deserves a high score in this category.

It’s by far the best-tasting cauliflower crust we’ve had and tastes very similar to a classic wheat flour crust. So, we’re giving it a 10 out of 10. In other words, this is the crust if you want a realistic cauliflower crust that doesn’t taste like cauliflower.

Final Thoughts

Alternative pizza crusts are made for many different purposes. Some use these crusts purely for health benefits, while others are looking to cut back on calories and carbs, and some others really need it because of food allergies and sensitivities.

Despite the reasons, everyone wants a crust that resembles the classic wheat flour crust as much as possible in taste and texture. And Oggi Foods has accomplished just that with their cauliflower pizza crusts.

So, if you’re looking for a cauliflower pizza crust that tastes realistic, is easy to prepare, and can take any topping without losing its shape,  Oggi’s is the one for you.
